Why the Carrier Roller Fails — and What It Costs When It Does
The top roller is one of the quieter items in a sany crane parts order — until it isn't. It sits above the track frame and keeps the upper run of the chain off the ground between the sprocket and front idler. Every metre the machine travels, it's taking load. On a busy site, that adds up fast.
When the roller starts to go — first sign is usually oil weeping from the floating seal, then you get audible chain slap as the upper run sags and starts contacting the frame — the damage to link pins and side plates moves quickly. A worn top roller that runs another 200 hours can cost five times its replacement value in track chain wear alone.
